Enrollment Procedure
Parents are asked to visit the program with their child prior to deciding to apply for entrance. At the time of the visit, they will be given a brief orientation to the center, our policies and parent participation requirements. If they feel KKELC is a good match for their child and family, they will complete a registration packet and provide health information, an emergency record card and immunization records or a signed exemption form. There is an annual $50 nonrefundable application fee.
The registration packet will be reviewed by the executive director and the Parents will be notified in a timely manner regarding their child’s acceptance or denial into the program.

The Cooperative Approach
Kachemak Kids ELC is a cooperative-style early education and child care center. We require our families to contribute 6 hours of ‘Parent-Time' each month. A variety of opportunities make this easy for families to achieve. In addition to spending time engaged in the life of the classroom, providing cleaning support, pet care, snacks, and other services all contribute toward the cooperative obligation. Community involvement in the school is also extremely valued. We deeply appreciate and rely on donations of materials and funds to support our innovative approach to working with young children.
More information on Parent / Member responsibilities and Parent Time is located in the Parent Handbook.
Parent Enrichment Workshops
Parent enrichment workshops are offered approximately every other month. These evening workshops offer parents opportunities to learn more about child development, the classroom curriculum, share parenting ideas and support one another in creating positive, nurturing environments for their children. Parents may suggest topics for workshops, invite outside speakers, or lead a workshop. Enrichment workshops are free for KKELC families, but will also be available to the public for a nominal fee as space permits.
As a part of their co-op responsibilities, parents are encouraged to participate in at least two workshops a year. Hours of participation can be counted as co-op time.
Fundraising Efforts
Kachemak Kids Early Learning Center depends on fund raising to keep tuition down and to maintain a high quality program. Members of the Board of Directors will lead fund raising efforts, but depend on parents to assist. Parents are also welcome to take the lead on a fund raiser. Each family is asked to participate in at least one fund raiser annually. Suggestions for fund raising should be directed to the board of directors. Time worked on fund raising counts towards parent co-op time for the month.
Workdays
Workdays will be announced when a major project is planned that requires a group effort. This may be a deep cleaning, maintenance, moving materials into or out of storage, etc. Families are asked to participate in at least one workday annually. The time worked goes towards your parent co-op time for that month.
Parent Board Members
Parents are encouraged to serve on the board. Because we believe in the community and quality of parent involvement, parent board members are still required to fulfill all the member responsibilities. Families with parents on the board will follow the same procedures regarding registration, their enrollment contract and parent responsibilities as families without a parent on the board.
You may also choose to assist the board by participating on a work committee without being a board member. If you are interested in serving on the board, or working with a committee, please contact a current board member for more information.
